Psychedelic Legal Defense & Emergency Support

The Psychedelic Legal Defense and Support Network is dedicated to protecting individuals, researchers, practitioners, and communities targeted under outdated and punitive drug laws. We provide coordinated legal strategy, expert support, and rapid-response advocacy for cases involving psychedelics, entheogens, and emerging research compounds, with a particular focus on unjust drug scheduling, government overreach, and interference with scientific and religious practice.
Our network connects attorneys, scientists, policy experts, and advocates to defend psychedelic research, challenge arbitrary enforcement actions, and support people facing criminal, civil, or regulatory consequences for psychedelic-related conduct. This includes assisting defendants and counsel with legal research, expert testimony, amicus support, constitutional arguments, and access to cutting-edge scientific and regulatory analysis. We prioritize cases that raise broader civil liberties issues, including cognitive liberty, bodily autonomy, religious freedom, due process, and the right to pursue evidence-based medical and therapeutic care.
Beyond individual cases, the Project uses strategic litigation and administrative challenges to confront systemic harms caused by drug scheduling and prohibition, including barriers to research, inequitable enforcement, and suppression of medical innovation. By combining defense support with impact litigation, public education, and coalition-building, the Rights and Reason Project is building a durable legal infrastructure to protect psychedelic science and advance rational, rights-centered drug policy reform.
