Coalition Building and Supporting Advocacy Groups

The Rights and Reason Project is dedicated to building a coordinated coalition and support infrastructure for organizations engaged in drug policy reform, civil liberties advocacy, scientific research, harm reduction, and related public-interest work. It functions as a strategic hub that connects independent groups, aligns complementary efforts, and strengthens collective capacity to challenge unjust drug laws, overbroad scheduling decisions, and regulatory barriers that impede research, medical access, and religious practice.

The project provides substantive support services tailored to the needs of advocacy organizations, including legal research and analysis, administrative law expertise, policy strategy development, and guidance on litigation posture and risk. Participating groups will gain access to shared resources, including issue briefs, regulatory tracking, expert networks, and coordinated amicus or public-comment efforts, as appropriate. The initiative also aims to assist organizations in navigating complex federal and state regulatory frameworks, enabling more effective responses to agency actions and legislative developments.

Beyond technical support, the project prioritizes relationship-building and coordination across movements that often operate in parallel. It facilitates working groups, strategic convenings, and structured collaboration to promote information sharing, reduce duplication of effort, and develop aligned advocacy strategies. By supporting coordinated action while respecting organizational independence, the project strengthens the broader drug policy reform ecosystem and advances durable, evidence-based change grounded in solidarity, shared expertise, and strategic collaboration.
